Let's Hear it for Salad!

Saladdate_2Welcome to Lis & Kelly's Excellent Salad 'Stravaganza.  If you've been surfing around food blogs over the past couple of days, then you have certainly put on some weight just looking at the Gateau St. Honore entries the daunting Daring Bakers have posted for their May challenge.  And if you're anything like me, then that means you really need a salad.  Something with lots of wonderfully healthy -- well, maybe ...and colorful -- um...okay, so monotone is a possibility -- vegetables.  Or seafood, or something with an ethnic or regional spin...well, you get the idea.  The idea is to kick off Summer '07 by celebrating salad in all its amazing permutations -- not exactly a food word, is it?  Anywayz, let's hear it for salad!  Woo Hoo!

Lis at La Mia Cucina, co founder of the Daring Bakers, has graciously offered to co-host this event.  We are both working on consuming food that is more conducive to healthier and *ahem* smaller bodies, so how lovely is that?  Very.

You just have to be interested, right?  You can't wait?  Let's see...what kind of salad can I put into a puff pastry shell.  Hmmm....  Or perhaps that Pate a Choux I have frozen and am dying to find out about...some curry or shrimp?  And then there's that BBQ.  Anything goes.

So this is how it works:

Of course, we would love everyone to join in.  Dig out those old family favorites or create something new and different.  Most of all have fun and get involved!  The more salads we can pump into Blogsville over the summer, the more svelte we'll be by September.  Well, that would be a good perk, right?  And theoretically, we could end up with enough salad recipes to last months!  We'll all be salad swappin' silly.

By June 25th -- almost a whole month away --  create a post on your blog to include photos of the salad (if you can because we'd love to salivate over them...)  a list of ingredients for the salad and dressing, and a set of directions for how to make it.  No brainer, right?  Seriously.

Then send either myself or Lis the permalink with the subject:  Salad 'Stravaganza.  You know you wanna....right?  My body parts will be forever indebted to you as we all wait for the next Daring Bakers challenge.

This is a lovely idea. I am always making salads and this time of the year it is just even easier as the weather just begs for them. I will most certainly be taking part.

Ivonne already promised Lisa to cover herself in salad...so I will offer a full blown version of the salad dance to keep her company...Count me in!

This is a great idea. I'm having hard time thinking salad, since I'm so use to stir-fry with my veges. Can't wait what e'one gonna come up with, yay !:)

Cranberry Pecan Pumpkin Loaves

  • Enjoy
This recipe was taken from Baking with Julia by Dorie Greenspan. I was inspired to use it because I've always wanted to make something with fresh pumpkin, and I've yet to find a recipe from this book that isn't excellent.
